Hallo, I’m Marie-Luise Smith.
I’m A German-born certified professional canine nutritionist (CPCN) and Animal Naturopath (CAN) dedicated to species-appropriate feeding and holistic wellbeing. I’m the owner & creator of Wolfried.
Rooted in a culture that values natural, high-quality nutrition, my science and research background drives me to challenge mainstream pet food narratives. Much of what is considered "science-based" today is deeply tied to the commercial pet food industry—reinforcing a tradition that serves their interests, not our dogs' wellness. I advocate for fresh, biologically appropriate diets that align with a dog's true ancestral needs, not industry-driven convenience.
Through Wolfried, I help owners cut through the noise and make evidence-based, independent decisions about their dogs' health. True wellness starts with species-appropriate nutrition, functional supplementation, and a deep understanding of each dog's unique biology—let’s reclaim Canine Wellbeing, one meal at a time.
The Story of Wolfried
Friedrich der Große and his Dogs adapted from Friedrich Schöbel’s ‘Friedrich der Große mit seinen Windhunden.’
Wolfried is more than a name—it is a philosophy rooted in history, nature, and the timeless wisdom of those who came before us. A nod to Friedrich the Great, it honors a leader who saw beyond convention, recognizing that animals, too, have souls—a belief far ahead of his time. In an era shaped by Descartes’ mechanistic view of life, Friedrich stood apart, valuing and loving dogs as sentient companions rather than mere possessions.
Like Friedrich, Wolfried defies the mainstream, embracing the knowledge that true well-being is not about control but about alignment with nature. Long before modern science, monastic healers understood that food is the foundation of health and that nature provides what is needed to maintain vitality. Their wisdom—rooted in simplicity, nourishment, and the healing properties of plants—remains as relevant today as it was centuries ago.
Wolfried stands for those who go off the beaten path, who reject overcomplication in favor of nature’s clarity. It is for those who believe that the way forward is, in many ways, the way back—to honoring the primal ancestry of the dog, the power of whole foods, and the quiet truth that wellness is not imposed but cultivated.
